The idea of an afterlife that is compatible with materialism is an idea I have long thought about. If you agree that people are physical entities only atoms, cells, neurons only it is still possible to have an afterlife. If one agrees that we a certain arrangement of atoms that our biology rests upon and that our consciousness is a result of that arrangement. Then after we die if a collection of atoms comes together in the far future (after the heat death of the universe say) and reproduces our minds and bodies then this random freak accident would constitute a natural ressurection hence an afterlife. Given that its likely that the universe is likely to expand forever (and forever is a very long time) such a random occurance is not only likely but virtually guaranteed. Hence an afterlife is perfectly compatible with the laws of nature as we know them.

Not about religion sounds interesting. I also believe that an atheist equivalent to an afterlife is possible to describe without resorting to magical explanation. Please send me some information.

Just received my copy via UPS two days ago. Extremely easy to read. Looking forward to spending some time this weekend and really delve into his argument!

I claimed one. Looks interesting. I feel that a serious, intelligent discussion of this question is long overdue. Thanks for the offer.
