About
Not About Religion is a magazine that looks at the world of faith and belief from the perspective of an outsider. Curiously peering through the windows, but not quite ready to walk through the front door.
Not About Religion takes an optimistically skeptical approach to the study of faith and belief. Hoping to see a ray of light, an epiphany, something to connect with—but seeing too many uncertainties, having too many questions.
Not About Religion was founded with the following basic principles:
- Religion is art. Religion is science. Religion is politics. Religion is a part of everyday life for believers and non-believers alike. Religion matters.
- There is no clear universal definition for “Religion”. The same goes for dualities like “good” and “evil.”
- All belief is valid. Nothing should be dismissed as nonsense.
Why Not About Religion? The subject of religion, from an outsider’s point of view, tends to evoke one of two emotions: boredom or outrage. Both are valid and understandable. But who wants to read an online magazine that will cause boredom or outrage? Thus…Not About Religion.
We see the world of religion as endlessly interesting, fascinating and even entertaining. Our goal is to present religion in such a way. Don’t worry; we have no interest in preaching, converting, or promoting/degrading any individual persuasion. To discover, inform, educate, discuss, and entertain are our only aims.
